PLANGERE WRITING CENTER INTERNSHIPS - SPRING 2017

The Plangere Writing Center at CAC will offer a 3-credit  Internship course combining practicum, theory, and writing project elements. Acceptance into the internships is competitive, and will be based on an application, statement of interest, and academic writing sample.

In our internship programs through the Rutgers Writing Program, interns receive intensive hands-on experience in the art of teaching and tutoring writing as a part of a writing theory and practical training experience.  Weekly Writing Center sessions allow intern tutors to develop professional communication, flexibility, patience, and focus as they support Rutgers undergraduate writers.  Additionally, throughout the semester interns meet in person and online to discuss diverse scholarly readings on the work and methods of a writing center, to partake in revision, discussion, and free-writing exercises, and to develop professional tutoring skills.  Students compose original essays on writing and tutoring theory texts, collaborate on group presentations, and process internship experiences through formal and informal reflection.

In addition to the challenging but gratifying experience of peer tutoring at the collegiate level, internships are a chance to grow as a writer, student, and professional.  Interns have opportunities to change perspectives, hone revision skills, create connections, bolster pedagogical philosophy, develop professionalism, and take initiative.

*Interns tutor one unpaid session per week as a practicum component. Interns schedule sessions according to their own availability. Additional sessions are paid.
